Guidelines for Infant Baptism Preparation

We are only accepting active registered members of the parish. If Godparents are married, they must be married by the Catholic Church and bring proof. Single Godparents must be at least 16 years old and have received all three sacraments of initiation and bring proof.


Who Can Be a Godparent/Sponsor

To be admitted to the role of sponsor, a person must:

  • Be designated as sponsor and have the qualifications and intention of performing this role.

  • Be at least 16 years old.

  • Be a Catholic who has been confirmed and has already received the sacrament of the Eucharist and leads a life in harmony with the faith and role to be undertaken.

  • If married, they must have been married in the Catholic Church, or in a marriage recognized by the Catholic Church.

  • Has to be a minimum of one Godparent, maximum of two. If there are to be two Godparents, one must be male and the other female.

  • Attend pre-baptismal class as well at the parish where baptism will take place or submit a letter of attendance at another parish.

  • Not be the father or mother of the one being baptized.

Note: A baptized person who belongs to a non-Catholic faith community may be admitted as a Christian witness together with a Catholic sponsor.
